As fans of Emmerdale now know, poor Gennie Walker (Sian Reese-Williams) has just become Cameron Murray’s third murder victim, though – for now at least – the villagers have no idea about Cameron’s involvement in Gennie’s death, and will of course believe that she died as a result of the terrible car crash she was involved in…
Gennie’s mum Brenda, who’s played by the lovely Lesley Dunlop, is set to hear the terrible news in tomorrow night’s episode, as is Gennie’s husband Nikhil Sharma, who is of course played by Rik Makarem.
Earlier this week, we were lucky enough to attend a preview press screening of tonight’s episode, and whilst there, we had a chat with Lesley, Sian and Rik about the storyline, and about Sian’s departure from the show.
And it quickly became apparent that Lesley in particular is finding it very hard to say goodbye to Sian, and as the pair hugged during our interview, both became teary-eyed as they tried to avoid contemplating not seeing each other on-set every day.
Lesley told us, “Filming after Gennie’s death scenes was so hard…
“Sian is just like a daughter to me. I’ve got two girls – well, three girls now…”
Sian then interjected, “Lesley kept ringing me [sobbing] and going ‘I just wanted to make sure you’re alright!’
“And she kept sending me videos of herself crying. In one she said, ‘I’m at your funeral!’”
Laughing while simultaneously shedding a tear, Lesley said, “I sent one video while we were at the funeral and I said to her, ‘Look what you’ve done to us all…’
“It was so, so sad. As a mum, it’s a place you don’t ever want to go to, and you try really hard not to. So filming on that day was really, really hard.”
Rik then added, “Yeah it was just so hard. When you go to that ‘place’, you gear yourself up for it, but it’s still very difficult.”
Lesley agreed and added, “The thing is, when the director shouts ‘Cut!’ and it’s over, you’re still desperately sad and just want to weep in a corner somewhere.
“Afterwards, I had to check that all my girls were alright. It’s virtually impossible with something like this to separate your character’s feelings from your own.”
